PROFILE
The Welfare And Medical Service Agency(WAM) is an "Incorporated Administrative Agency" (IAA) which was formed to take over the duties of the SOCIAL WELFARE AND MEDICAL SERVICE CORPORATION, as a result of the "Reorganization and Rationalization Plan for Special Public Institutions" (Cabinet Decision of December 19, 2001). |
WAM administers a variety of operations, as prescribed by Act on the Welfare and Medical Service Agency, to promote and improve social welfare and medical services. |
MAIN FUNCTIONS
1. Loans
WAM provides low-interest long term loans to private social welfare institutions (intensive care homes for the elderly, support facilities for persons with disabilities, nursery centers etc.) and private medical institutions (hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities etc.) for construction, maintenance and operation of facilities.
2. Management support
WAM provides management support services for private social welfare and medical institutions.
3. Assistance for social welfare services
WAM provides subsidies to various projects initiated by private non-profit organizations and others. These subsidies are provided to improve social welfare services.
4. Retirement allowance mutual aid system
WAM manages a retirement allowance mutual aid system for employees of private social welfare institutions.
5. Insurance for people with disabilities
WAM manages an insurance system to provide life-long pension for people with disabilities after their guardians pass away.
6. Information services (WAM NET)
WAM NET provides general information about social welfare, health and medical services on internet and ensures secure connection among relevant organizations.
